Deinonychus is a medium-sized dromaeosaur from Late Cretaceous western United States. As one of the staples of dinosaurs used to understand more about the rest of its overarching family, it exists as an important figure in knowing the activity dinosaurs would've had. Since then, Deinonychus (and other relatives) have been found to be much more bird-like, with body feathering, non-flight wings, and a more naturalistic posture.
There are two things to look for here. This piece functions as a reconstruction of Deinonychus, my first attempt at true feathering, but also functions as a design and color concept for a hypothetical Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis Deinonychus.
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis originally had plans for Deinonychus to appear. Although what would it look like? The Velociraptor already is practically a larger Deinonychus. A lot of the unique qualities outside of AI would be coloration. A darker and mottled look with a distinct purple-ish eyespot would be a near-reversal of a cream-white with black spots and a red eye patch.
The interpretation of the physical design is fairly straight forward, a JP;OG Deinonychus would be nearly like a Velociraptor, but slightly adjusted for its time. Although here instead, it was given a near-modern look. The majority of original JP;OG creatures were often fair close to their real world counterparts at the time, so a modern setting would likely give it feathering to make it highly distinct from Velociraptor. Obviously interpretations will vary, but this is how it would look ideally for something that would be feathered.
Hope you enjoyed this "duo"-usage piece!
